People are often confused on selecting the right IP rating and thereby design for their products resulting in over specifying the project. We can suggest the best IP rating in terms of the application of the product which can even ultimately bring down the price of the product in volume production.

One of the main concerns in designing any IP device with RF based technology is the material and thickness of the plastic used which ultimately affect the RF penetration in and out of the enclosure which may affect the performance of the product.

For the ports/connectors, we may use IP rated connectors on the PCB or providing a simple living hinge covered with an O-Ring which protects these ports. The LED light guides can be provided which will be over-molded on the enclosure which will provide proper sealing. Also, other option is by using overlay membrane which would have buttons and LEDs which bonds to the rest of the face.
